posted 2008/11/15
As you know the date for annual Thanksgiving day coaches game is fast approaching.
The game is primarily for LYSA coaches and friends. LYSA travel coaches, High School coaches, Receration coaches, Linden Travel Referees, ex-LYSA coaches and friends.
We ask that all players bring a white top (it can be on top of your sweat top - whatever will keep you warm). Please wear shin guards and proper soccer shoes (no sneakers). Our goal: fun and zero injuries (Kris J. will be wrapped in bubble wrap from head to toe since he managed to get hurt 2 games in a row).
If there is inclement weather or the field is not playable, we will post a note on this site so monitor lindenyouthsoccer.com for updates.
We need to have an idea of how many coaches intend to play so please send a note to
to indicate your interest and how many players besides yourself that you intend to bring with you.
We want to make this a fun and successful day so the bigger the number, the better... We have a small sided and a full sided field so we will use whichever field is appropriate. In the crazy scenario that we have more than we expect, we could have 2 games at the same time...
Kids: Come out and coach your coaches. Tell them to run. Tell them to pass. Tell them to shoot. Give them a high five after they come out... Lots of laughs and great fun.
We usually don't pay attention to the scoreboard (and we can't remember the score 5 minutes into the game) except for Mr. Labrador (Real) who wants to keep his scoring streak intact. It is meant to be a fun Thanksgiving event. Please be there on time so we can do a group warm up and keep everybody in one piece... Come join the tradition!

Have you seen him?
He spends countless hours giving of his time, love and passion so that a group of kids get to play the game they love at a high level. Shouting encouragements and corrections. Where does he find the energy and passion? We are very appreciative of him. He is a coach. He is a LYSA hero.
Have seen her?
She plays some of her home games at Al Kalla. She practices dilligently twice or sometimes three times a week. She gives it her all every game. Whether her team is ahead , tied or playing from behind, she keeps pressing on. Sometimes the ball bounces her way. Other times, it does not. Still, she answers the call of the first whistle and tries to find a way to keep her team in the game, to win the game. What a heart she has. She is spirited and full of fight for the competition yet is kind and respectful of the opposition, the game officials, coaches and fans. She displays great character. She is fun to watch. She is fun to cheer on. Have you seen her? She is a LYSA player. She is a LYSA hero.
Have you seen him?
He plays the game with skill, determination and focus. Sometimes his team is dominant and seems unstoppable. At times, the opposition is better. No matter what, he is there: fighting on, dribbling on, marking his man, taking his shots on goal. He loves to play. What a pleasure he is to coach and cheer on. He sometimes plays hurt or plays a new position in order to help the team. He is tough and unselfish. Have you seen him? He is a LYSA player. He is a LYSA hero.
Have you seen them?
She manages the team. She makes sure all paper work is ready and filled out properly. He ensures that all members of the team receives their uniforms. She sends the reminder notices for practice and games. He contacts the other team to confirm time and place of games or to reschedule the games when that is necessary. She is there at most games and practices. Have you seen them? They are LYSA team managers. They are LYSA heroes.
Have you seen him?
He is there at every home game. He makes sure that everybody remembers that this is a game and that all have a good time. He mostly stays out of it but if a fan on our teams gets a little too excited, he gently brings them back in line so that the atmosphere of the game remains fun for our kids. Have you seen him? He is a LYSA Sage Rep. He is a LYSA hero.
Have you seen her?
She is there for most games. Cheering on her team. Always there to hug him after the game. Always there to find a kind word to say to her after a tough game. She is always proud of the effort he gives. You can hear her say : "Let's go Linden!". She is loud when Linden scores. She still says "Lets go Linden!" when the opposition scores. She sometimes brings oranges or munchkins for the team. She spends the entire day with the team when the team goes to a tournament. She is always kind to the coaches. When she plays, she knows that she is there on the sideline pulling for her. When he is on the field, he knows, she is her biggest fan. Have you seen her? She is a LYSA parent. She is a LYSA hero.
Have you seen him?
He is usually in the shadows. Volunteering his time to review the administration of the club. Always ready to lend a hand where a hand is needed. He serves not for recognition but to simply help. He helps build the infrastructure for the future of the club. Have you seen him? He is a LYSA board member. He is a LYSA hero.
Have you ever thought of all the people it takes to make the LYSA soccer experience a rich and fruitful one? Have you realized that somehow they all have to put the interest of another ahead of theirs? Have you thought how precious it is to be able to build memories with so many friends? Do you realize that we are all in this together? Have you seen the hero in you? I have. You are a LYSA hero.
